A cache of treasures dating back to the reign of Alexander the Great (4th century BC) has been unearthed by a group of cave explorers in Galilee, Israel. The treasures are estimated to be around 2,300 years old and vary in kind. The Telegraph reports, “two silver coins minted during Alexander’s reign and several pieces of silver jewellery, including rings, bracelets and earrings.” Archaeologists working with the Israel Antiquities Authority hypothesize that the valuables could have been hidden by locals fearing the political turmoil following the death of Alexander the Great, in the hopes of retrieving them at a later date.
