The Green family of the Hobby Lobby chain of craft stores is planning to establish a museum dedicated to the Bible in Washing D.C. The museum is scheduled to open in 2017 and will hold rare ancient religious manuscripts, Torahs, and Bibles. The Green Collection is one of the world’s largest private collections of such historical items; it comprises more than 40,000 biblical antiquities, including a substantial number of Dead Sea Scrolls and unpublished biblical papyri. Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby, began collecting about five years ago with the assistance of historian and archaeologist Scott Carroll. The museum awaits final approval from the city, expected by the end of this month.
